The accidental entrepreneur
Sonia calls herself “The Accidental Entrepreneur” because her journey to leadership was one that she never expected to take. With an extensive career in People and Culture, her life took an unexpected turn of events when she was left a solo mother in a foreign country. Determined to make a life for herself and her daughter with little money, she started working in Leadership Development and Consulting. She decided to start a company called LeadershipHQ from a leadership blog – crazy!
Today she is now consulting, coaching and speaking around the Globe around Leadership, Neuroscience and how to build Great Organisations, Teams and Leaders. With 3 Books now in publication and more to come, Sonia is changing the face of Leadership today.

Sonia McDonald – Her Story
Sonia McDonald took an unexpected journey into the entrepreneurial world. Her background is in Human Resources, working in various roles in Australia before her family took her to Shanghai. After working there for a while – a highly recommended experience – due to some unfortunate circumstances, Sonia found herself as a solo mum with $2,000 in the bank in a foreign country.
She decided to move back to Australia, initially continuing in her role remotely before taking up an opportunity as a Leadership Development Consultant. Admittedly she ‘faked’ her expertise when expressing interest in the role, but soon found herself utterly fascinated with leadership. She read books, watched videos, TEDtalks and work papers and thoroughly enjoyed working with different people on different projects.
As her career gravitated toward mentoring and coaching, and falling in love with inspiring and building people around her, Sonia started a blog: Leadership HQ. An incredible success story, Leadership HQ turned from a blog to a company – encompassing coaching, training, leadership programs, resources and events. Tune in to hear about this amazing transformation.
